The Makor Project is designed to be accessible to the widest possible audience, in conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and Section 508.
Specific commitments
- Screen reader compatibility. All Topic pages, foundational documents, and navigation elements have been tested with standard screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) and are designed to render meaningful, logically ordered content to assistive-technology users.
- Keyboard navigation. The entire platform is navigable using a keyboard alone, without dependence on a mouse or pointer device. Visible focus indicators are maintained throughout.
- Color contrast. Text-to-background contrast ratios meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 AA standard (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
- Alt text. Every image carries descriptive alternative text suitable for screen-reader users.
- Captions and transcripts. Every video on the platform carries closed captions and, where the video is longer than thirty seconds, a downloadable transcript.
- Reading tools. A built-in reading-tools menu lets any visitor enlarge the text or switch to an easy-reading typeface, on every page.
- Legible typography. Body text is set in a typeface and size designed for sustained reading; line lengths, line heights, and letter spacing follow accessibility best practices.
- Responsive design. The platform is fully responsive across desktop, tablet, and mobile breakpoints, with content reflowing rather than zooming to maintain usability at all common viewport sizes.
Known limitations
PDF documents downloadable from the platform are reviewed for accessibility, but older PDFs created before the platform's launch may have limited screen-reader compatibility. Users who require an accessible version of any specific document are encouraged to contact editor@makorproject.org and the platform will provide an alternative format where reasonably possible.
Continuous improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. The platform welcomes feedback from users with disabilities and from accessibility specialists. Issues identified are prioritized for resolution.
How to report accessibility issues
Email editor@makorproject.org with the subject line “Accessibility” and a description of the specific issue and the page on which it occurs. The platform aims to respond within fourteen days.
